Rustic Living Room Furniture – Over 12 years ago we purchased our first family home in the legendary City of Robin Hood Nottingham. We needed to stretch our funds and be extremely inventive as money was tight. This included utilizing our tub panel that was old as part of the dcor in the front room.
Sounds like and intriguing challenge doesn’t it? Well here is how it all came about.
Is in a very leafy suburb of the city. My partner and I had awakened moving to the area and decided to purchase the best home we can afford in the best area. I guess we’d taken to heart the mantra location, location, location’.
Because of this we ended up with a actual fixer-upper that demanded renovation. In joists where rotten and our new home the floor boards, the windows had shifting plus we had gas electrical and heating services. The backyard was Jurassic though it did have some fantastic rose bushes in, looking. Overall we had taken on a massive cash.
Not to be discouraged we set about turning our newly acquired job into a home. One of the attractive facets of the home was all the original 1930’s features. This comprised fantastic also and doors that we got stripped professionally some genuinely nice original cast iron fireplaces.
The fireplaces produced a feature that was central in the living and dining room areas. Both fireplaces had some serious job and needed restoring.
We utilized chemicals to strip off all the soot and scorch marks from the flames themselves. Then we maintained the look and eliminated and replaced the wooden surrounds with new ones that had a rustic feel.
The challenge came after we eliminated the hearth in our living room. Replacing this appeared to be really difficult. Firstly we did not have money which limited our selection of tiles. Actually we ended up looking from the budget ranges that whilst did not fit in with the theme of the room at dozens of tile swatches.
It was then that I had an inspired idea. A couple of days until we ripped out and replaced our tub. Actually at this point it was sitting on our driveway waiting to be loaded into a skip and taken down to the dump. My partner had the way it was a shame to ditch it and remarked about the lovely marble panel. Make down it to be used as our fire hearth and my thought was to take this.
Finding a rock mason only took a quick look through a couple of calls and a neighborhood small business directory. I am happy we found that a specialist as not only did he cut it to size but also provided us advice on the best way to care for a fire hearth that is new.
We installed it using concrete to hold it. I purchased some matching mosaic tiles to go round the edge of the fire and then took a visit itself.
The final result is outstanding and even to this day we locate guests to our home commenting on the feature fireplace in our room. Obviously they are amazed when we come clean and explain our resourceful use of the tub panel.
